Why live in Bacchus Marsh

40 minutes by V/Line train and approximately 50 kilometres by road, Bacchus Marsh is a thriving hub outside the Melbourne CBD.

Why live in Bacchus Marsh

Originally settled in the 1850s following the discovery of gold in Ballarat, it is one of Victoria’s oldest settlements. A major stop on the journey between the goldfields and Melbourne, Bacchus Marsh enjoyed an economic boom during the 1850s and this is reflected in the charm and the grandeur of its architecture. Stroll around town and enjoy the history of buildings like the sandstone Courthouse (built in 1858), the Express Office, constructed out of handmade bricks in 1865 and the Mechanics’ Institute (1858), which is considered one of the first in the state.

Fast forward to today and Bacchus Marsh is one of Victoria’s fastest growing, family-friendly towns. There are a number of notable public, independent and Catholic schools with strong NAPLAN scores, including, Bacchus Marsh Grammar, Bacchus Marsh Primary and Darley Primary School. Enjoy quality outdoor time at the three state parks within 15 minutes-drive of the town centre-- Lerderderg State Park, Werribee Gorge State Park and Long Forest Nature Conservation Reserve.  Wallabies, Kangaroos and Koalas are all native to the area, and are best seen at dawn and dusk hidden among the trees and scrub. These parks offer numerous hiking and walking trails as well as reservable camp sites.

Locals enjoy the community feel and country environs of Bacchus Marsh which is surrounded by orchards, pastoral fields and market gardens. Drive along the Avenue of Honour to the east of the town and take in the 281 Dutch Elm trees which were planted to honour the men and women who lost their lives in World War Two. Stop at the market stalls which are dotted throughout these magnificent trees and buy fruit and vegetables straight from the farm gate.

But it’s not all parks, produce and peace at Bacchus Marsh, it’s also home to Bacchus Marsh Motorsports where you can enjoy some hair-raising hot laps in your own rally car. Proving once again, that there really is something for everyone at Bacchus Marsh.
